Mercedes-Benz debuts new concept with '30s flair
- Mercedes-Benz has introduced a concept car intended to show the brand at its elegant best.
- It's the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet, which Mercedes says pays homage to "automotive haute couture." It was introduced at an event in Pebble Beach, where the big Concours d'Elegance classic car show takes place Sunday.
- Like the luxury cars from the 1930s, it's long and low with boat tail rear.
- "The Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet takes modern luxury into the realms of the ultimate in luxury," says Gorden Wagener, chief design officer of Mercedes parent Daimler.
- The car is almost 20 feet long, largely because of its long hood. It rides on 24-inch wheels.
- Inside, the interior is supposed to have the feeling of an open-air lounge with a yacht-like appearance. Yet is has a mix of digital instruments and dials with needles.
